Like many local families, the Kinney parents worked hard to provide Nathaniel and his sister with opportunities they did not have themselves. Nathaniel's parents' hard work and sacrifices made it possible for Nathaniel to enroll at the Mid-Pacific Institute where he graduated and earned his diploma. Afterwards, Nathaniel attended and later graduated from the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). After UNLV, Nathaniel returned to O'ahu to be closer to his family. Nathaniel gained invaluable legislative experience when he worked for then-Senate President Robert "Bobby" Bunda. In 2004, Nathaniel started his legal education at the William S. Richardson School of Law here at Manoa and graduated with a law degree in 2007.
Nathaniel knows the District 5 area well. He spent his formative years in Manoa and graduated from high school there. He also went to law school in the area. Nathaniel both lives and works in the District 5 area where he is also a home owner. Every day and all day Nathaniel is a witness to what happens in the community and what its unique needs are.
Nathaniel is an organizer and serves as in-house counsel for the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 50. Nathaniel is currently on an unpaid leave of absence to campaign full-time for the election.
Nathaniel's vision for the City of Honolulu is to protect current jobs and create more. Nathaniel will bring the fresh perspective necessary to move our city forward and into a new era. There are different and more efficient ways for the Honolulu city government to operate and Nathaniel will actively work to implement policies that provides jobs, helps to stabilize our economy, and help our neighborhoods return to being thriving communities.
